Director of Bands — Ore City ISD
Position Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Campus Principal
Primary Purpose:
Lead and manage the district’s instrumental music program, including high school and middle school bands. Provide students with opportunities to grow musically, perform at a high level, and participate successfully in UIL and community events. Ensure the program aligns with district goals, state standards, and Ore City ISD’s commitment to equitable educational opportunities ocisd.net.
Key Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Instruction
- Direct all band ensembles, including marching band, concert band, and beginner/intermediate classes.
- Develop and deliver high-quality instruction aligned with TEKS and best practices in music education.
- Prepare students for performances, contests, region auditions, and community events.
- Oversee marching band design, rehearsals, and contest preparation.

Compliance & Standards
- Ensure adherence to UIL rules, state regulations, and district policies governing music programs.
- Maintain accurate student eligibility records and documentation.
Program Management
- Manage program logistics including scheduling, transportation, and event planning.
- Maintain an organized and safe band hall, instrument inventory, and music library.
Budget & Resources
- Develop and manage the band budget, including purchasing, repairs, and fundraising oversight.
- Collaborate with campus and district administration on long-term equipment planning.
Communication & Community Engagement
- Build positive relationships with students, families, staff, and community stakeholders.
- Communicate expectations, schedules, and program updates clearly and consistently.
- Represent Ore City ISD at concerts, competitions, and public events.
Qualifications:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or related field.
- Valid Texas teaching certificate
- Strong knowledge of instrumental pedagogy, marching band techniques, and UIL standards.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred
- Prior experience as a head or assistant band director.
- Demonstrated success in UIL marching and concert evaluations.
- Ability to obtain or maintain a CDL for student transportation.
- Current CPR/AED certification.
Working Conditions

- Outdoor rehearsals in varying weather conditions.
- Physical ability to demonstrate instruments, march, and assist with equipment.
